On Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 9:14 pm, the Green Lake County Sheriff's E911 Communications Center received several calls concerning a crash on Cth F just West of the City of Berlin. Callers reported possibly two crashes with an injured party present.
At 9:18pm, City of Berlin Police arrived at the scene and found an injured male laying in the roadway. They also found two pick-up trucks and one tractor which were involved. Other responding units including the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office, Berlin Fire/Rescue, Berlin Ambulance, and Berlin Emergency Government arrived and processed the scene and injured. An adult male was transported by Berlin Amublance to Berlin Hospital. The male party was then flown by Theda Star helicopter to Theda Clark Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
An initial investigation has revealed that a Brian E. Dabb, age 45, of Princeton, was operating a 1650 Oliver tractor headed West on Cth F. David R. Piechowski, age 55, Redgranite, was operating a 2002 Chevrolet truck also West on Cth F and came upon the tractor, then running into the rear of the tractor. The Piechowski truck became disabled in the roadway when David Piechowski exited the truck on foot. At this time a third truck, 2007 Dodge, driven by James V. Ottesen, age 48, of Neshkoro, swerved to avoid the crash and struck David Piechowski on the right shoulder of the roadway.
David R. Piechowski remains at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center, his condition is not known. James V. Ottesen was released from the scene being uninjured. Brian E. Dabb was taken into custody and transported to the Green Lake County Jail for Felony theft of the Oliver tractor and a probation hold.
This case remains under investigation by the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol who is reconstructing the crash.
