At 12:19pm, Tuesday, March 20, 2012, the Green Lake County Communications Center received a fire call at Golden Rd. and Sunrise Lane within the Township of Kingston, Green Lake County, Wisconsin. The fire was reported to be in a marsh area adjacent to railroad tracks.

The Dalton Fire Department responded to the scene and subsequently requested mutual aid from the Kingston, Marquette, Markesan, Princeton, Pardeeville, and Montello Fire Departments. Wisconsin DNR Fire Rangers from Wautoma and Poynette also responded with heavy equipment.   A DNR airplane also assisted from the air.

Due to fire and smoke within the area, the Union Pacific Railroad was shut down for a period of time.

Dalton Fire Chief Duwane Marwitz has reported that approximately 100 acres was burned, believed to be started by a passing train. No injuries or property damage has been reported as a result of this marsh fire. As of 7:00pm the fire was under control with fire units remaining on scene putting out hot spots.
