Meals and lodging will be provided during the pre-service training for those who reside more than 45 miles from our Madison Training Center located within in Madison. Training will focus on report writing, human/public relations, weapons familiarization, supervision of inmates, communication skills and standards of conduct. Selected candidates new to state service will start at $16.00 per hour and will receive semi-annual increases of approx. $0.49/hour until reaching 24 months of service. Compensation for current or former State employees may vary and will be in accordance with applicable language in Statutes, Administrative Code, and the Compensation Plan. *Add-on bonus of $1.00 for WCI and GBCI. They direct and monitor inmate behavior, counsel inmates, conduct personal searches and may transport inmates to/from other institutions, medical facilities, county jails, etc. Special Notes: At least 18 years of age upon appointment Hold a valid driver�s license for a minimum of two years Less than three traffic violations in the past two years No felony convictions without a pardon No domestic violence convictions Pass a medical exam, drug test, and fitness test Requires ability to work overtime Meet firearms standards High school diploma or equivalent Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the US, a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the US without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background and traffic violation checks on all applicants. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting and drug testing. Drug policy: Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.
