Description

The City of Fond du Lac is accepting applications for the position of Senior Accountant in the Comptroller’s Office of the Department of Administration. This full time position reports directly to the Deputy Comptroller/Treasurer and will primarily be responsible for Water Utility, Wastewater Treatment & Resource Recovery Facility, and Transit accounting and reporting functions.  

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Responsibility for processing and managing the City’s financial transactions, records, statements and reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and Public Service Commission requirements for Water Utility financial operations.
• Prepare and submit all required Public Service Commission financial reports.
• Assist in preparation of the annual City budget.
• Assist in preparation of the annual City audit.
• Reconcile City bank statement at least monthly.
• Oversee the collection of delinquent personal property taxes.
• Monitor and maintain fixed assets schedules for funds within responsibility as well as all City funds.
• Approve purchase requisitions at Finance level for funds within responsibility.
• Research and maintain a working knowledge of GAAP, GASB, Public Service Commission requirements, as well as Federal, State & City regulations relevant to accounting and finance.
• Provide information and assistance to City staff and the general public regarding accounting transactions and related inquiries.
• Perform statistical computations and financial analyses, prepare financial reports, and prepare computerized accounting journal entries.
• Adapt accounting and recordkeeping functions to current technology of computerized accounting systems.
• Perform a wide variety of other general accounting and office duties to ensure proper and accurate financial reporting.

Required Experience

Minimum training and experience include a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with three to five years accounting experience in a computerized environment, preferably in the public sector. Two years of progressively responsible experience completing a wide range of accounting tasks. Must be competent in using and applying GAAP and GASB accounting principles. Candidates also must have proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and integrated computerized financial software. Proven effective communication skills, and success in managing multiple assignments concurrently and meeting critical and time-sensitive deadlines highly recommended.
